Re: Let's get rid of The Bakery

The blank comment email notifications are annoying, until I redirected
them to my gmail account. Gmail pulls them in just find. just FYI.
If I used any other email client, Evolution/Outlook/etc.. they would
all be blank.

The Bakery has its uses, and I like the idea behind it; a single
place for developers of CakePHP to blog/share code/etc.. I also like
that its reviewed by CakePHP developers to adhere to and keep a level
of consistency/correctness. That's a noble and very ambitious goal.

The biggest issue I see facing the bakery is the lack of moderators.
The time it takes a to go through the submittion->feedback->publish
process on an article is extremely long. The last article I submitted
took almost 2 months to finally publish. That, coupled with the fact
once the article is approved, and published, if you need to make an
edit it has to go through the entire review process again. What you
end up with is a ton of code rot, because once its published its
easier to just leave it be and comment on updates.

The Bakery needs to have a faster turn-around. After an article is
published, an edit should not revoke its published state, rather put
it in the bin to re-review, and if the edit is outrageous *then* take
it down after the review. I find most edits are simple code upkeep,
spelling/grammar errors, extra explanation, etc... It'd be nice after
having gone through that long review process that if an author wanted
to add an extra sentence or two, update a link or any other minor
upkeep the article would stay published with a (pending review)
status.

It may be as simple as getting more moderators, I have and do offer my
services to help code review/feedback/etc.. IMHO turn-around needs
to be better or just don't have code review.
