Multiple controllers linked to a single model

I have a table called 'objects' and each record has an item_type.
for example :
row 1:
id = 1
item_type = event

row 2:
id =2
item_type = news

row 3:
id =3
item_type = booking

I have a model for the table but is it possible to have multiple
controllers accessing this model,
I want to have an events controller that will handle all the events,
news controller that will handle all the news... and so on

is this possible for cakePhp?

Then just strip_tags() before each insert.

Database size is irrelevant IMO.

Using GET not POST returns empty $this->data

I am trying to make a very simple link up between an android app (appinventor) and a standard cake app.  I have created the blog tutorial and it all works great.  I can make my app link to another web site with a URL and return XML (a simple API request) so I know it works, I just want to do the same with cake.

I can't work out the syntax of a the POST to send with appinventor, but I can make the 'add' form use GET with

echo $this->Form->create('Post', array('type' => 'get'));

When I use this form I see the correct parameters in the URL, but $this->data appears empty and nothing is saved - the add page just comes straight back.

I have scoured this group, the Bakery and the internet for an hour now and am demoralised. I know it must be something simple in the posts_controller.php but I can't find it.

You have given no code for us to work with, just a concept of what
you're trying to achieve.

I assume you are trying to use javascript to do this ... if you want
help show us the relevant fields in your view, along with the
javascript you are using.

The parameter(s) should already be in the link's href attribute, if
not you're not using pagination to display your column sort and paging
links?

I know you dont want to hear this, but ...

I would really reccomend going back to using a user table. That's
where you store the username, passwoprd, email, user_group_id,
visit_count, last_visit_id etc. (i.e. the fields that define a User
object)

I would then create a hasOne <-> belongsTo relationship to your
Artiste model where you store all the other fields you need to define
an Artiste object

dropdown onchange send ajax submit

hi all,
i created a form(below).

what i done is there is a select box and update button. If i select a
value in dropdown and clicks submit,then ajax method is working, but i
dont want to give update button in that form,instead i want to have an
onchange event for the dropdown, so that if user selects a value, the
form is updated. how to do this?
If i am giving the onchange as this.form.submit(), then it is taking
as normal request. Is there any simple solution to this/

Using Auth WIth Another Table instead of Users

I am not using the User table for authentication instead I am using an
artiste table but the problem is that I havent been able to lgoin
using the username and password I registered with. I have already
hashed the password using Security::hash($this->data['Artiste']
['password'], null, true). Would like to know how to hash the password
a user is using to login before checking if his details is right.

Would also like ot know how to use auth with another table.
I have already added this to the beforeFilter but I still cant login,

Hi Mondo,

Paul is right, you should model-ise your join table, effectively creating a "hasMany through" association, since you're adding additional fields that are not part of the table's foreign keys. You might want to read this:

IMHO, I think that you're looking for a helper instead of a behavior, as this is clearly display logic for your views. You might want to try out Paul's suggestion of using jQuery clone(), and then moving the code into a helper.

I agree with the above opinions about 2.0--I haven't run into any showstoppers when using it for my own personal projects, and I sigh every time I have to go back to work on one of my clients' 1.x projects now :)

If you use a lot of plugins, however, note that most of them are still only for CakePHP 1.x and require sometimes substantial work to make them compatible with 2.0.

implementing i18n in a non cakephp app

hi there

I have an old webapp on which i have to add i18n support. At this
moment I've added a __() around my messages which i need to be
translated and changed in my interface.

I don't have great experience with cake or programming in OO but I'll
like to know the logic by which cakephp can offer i18n. I can do a
parser to extract all the strings which have to be translated(those
with __()).

What do I have to do from that point?

Re: Corrupted app/tmp/cache/views/ Files

Thanks so much for looking into these. The reason I only included the persistent cache files was because I noticed that when I moved these files out, refreshed the page, I could see a properly rendered site. If I put these files back into the persistent folder, and refreshed the page again, I'd get the white page again. So the problem was completely reproducible with the persistent cache files. I have plans to migrate these sites up to 1.3, hopefully this issue has been addressed. Thanks again.
