For simple links why wouldn't you use use the image function
echo $this->Html->image('cake_icon.png', array('alt' => 'CakePHP', 'url' => 'http://cakephp.org'));
http://api.cakephp.org/class/html-helper#method-HtmlHelperimage
For anything more complex, you are likely to find that your helper function doesn't help to have a function with 4 args, and that using the last one obliterates escape.
