Access session values on a custom component on Cakephp 3

Hi,
Would you please let me know how I could access the session stored value from a custom component in cakephp 3. When I tried to access like $this->request->session()->read('Vendor.primary_manager');

I am getting the following error.
Error: Call to a member function session() on a non-object
File /src/Controller/Component/CemailsComponent.php
Line: 29
