Also, you can specify the directory using the -app attribute to bake,
i.e. :
./cake bake -app /Users/myusername/Sites/ mynewapp

Which generates this as the next step:
Welcome to CakePHP v1.2.0.7962 Console
---------------------------------------------------------------
App : Sites
Path: /Users/myusername/Sites
---------------------------------------------------------------
Bake Project
Skel Directory: /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/lib/php/cake/console/
