Using controller action to handle Ajax requests on cake 1.2

Dear backers,

I have an action in a controller which is responsible to handle an
Ajax request, this action should return some data back.

My action is using the 'ajax' layout, so the layout is not being
rendered, but unfortunately the cake sql log is still appearing.

I could escape this problem by switching the environment to
production, but it's not the perfect solution!

I believe that mentioning an ajax layout shouldn't send back any extra
data.

Any clue?
