Ajax call and DOM modification

I have a view like this, called collection.ctp

echo "<ul>"
foreach ($elements as $element):
echo "<li id='element_".$element['item']['id']."'>"
echo $ajax->link('delete 1', array( 'controller' =>
'users', 'action' => 'remove', $element['item']['id'] ));
echo "</li>"
endforeach;
echo "</ul>"

this view is rendered by collection() function that returned an array
called $elements of paginated element. remove() function simply remove
a record from DB.

I would that clicking on ajax link 'li' element will be removed only
if deleting process will be completed with success.

how can I do?
