Having one model per data source seems reasonable to me, and you're talking about two data sources: 1) Google News, 2) your own database. But, although I am an experienced PHP developer, I am new to CakePHP, so perhaps I should step back and let someone more experienced with this framework take over. PHP of course has many ways to accomplish most things, but perhaps there are CakePHP best practices for this kind of situation that I'm not aware of.

I don't know how you want your front-end to look and function, so I can't advise you about how many buttons you should have.
