combine 2 tables to order by date (different fieldnames)

Hi,

i have 2 tables (i.e. incoming_messages and outgoing_messages). saving data in one table isn't possible.
now i want to select all entries from both tables, for getting a working pagination, and order it by date. But each table has a different name for date-fields, but same format.

changing table-structure is not possible.

is there a way to combine this tables within a request and how?
