Cake PHP 2_3_2 and issue saving records to table

Hi,

I've just started using CakePHP. I'm trying to save POST data from a form to a MYSQL database using the Model::save() method and passing the request data to it.
e.g. $this->Company->save($this->request->data). I'm also using debug to dump the contents of the Model::$validationErrors and when I do this I get
an empty array hopefully indicating their are no validation errors. What other mechanisms does Cake PHP provide or what conventions should I have followed to ensure that my data was saved correctly?

Thanks in advance,
Ger.
