Benefits for $html->link

Are there any benefits, or behind the scenes magic for doing this:

$html->link('Link', array('controller' => 'users', 'action' =>
'login', 'var'));

Compared to:

$html->link('Link', '/users/login/var/');

This also applies to anywhere else you build urls.
