Create a banned word list?

Is there or what is the easiest way to create a list of banned words?

I am using custom slugs for URLS but in the app the user can create their own slug when they sign up. But I would like to block some names from being used obviously i don't want people using swear words, objectionable or ones that match controllers/actions.

 

Would it be best to make a 'illegals' table (id, name) and put all the banned words/phrases for the site there and check that table when i need to save data that has restrictions?

 

Any feedback, tips or suggestions would be great.
