Newbie to CakePhP a quick question

Hi,
I'm new to CakePhP and i managed to get my CakePHP running thanks
to a great guide CakePhp tutotial for a newbie:

i'm got the cake http://localhost/cake/ to be all green

and i'm running MAMP Pro

in the past i had a website up and running with cake using the setup
of one core one app

my question is this when i go tot he directory i get an app folder
and a core folder and then a dev folder within the app/webroot/ and
all i want to do is get the website runnning locally on my mac book
pro (intel) OSX with out the one core one app aspect as i do not have
a live server..

any help or insight to this would help as i'm a newbie to php and cake
etc...
