I stand under correction, but you can specify the amount of memory PHP
is allowed to use in your web server config, or alternatively in your
php.ini file (I think its the latter). I've had problems with out of
memory exceptions when doing multiple image transformations. If you're
using images, or other things that require lots of memory (any file
handling really) make sure you close the files appropriately and free
the used memory if applicable.

Cake uses log files. Have a look at http://book.cakephp.org/view/157/Logging
to make use of them. This is part of the programming api, so you'll
need to define your own log statements. If you put them in the right
places, you'll probably be able to isolate the problem fairly quickly.
