Table synonyms in SQL Server 2008

I have a working app, which I am moving into a new DB engine. In its
new location, one of the tables will be linked as a synonym from
another engine. I can query the table from Management Studio...

SELECT * FROM tablename;

At the present stage of development, I only have ths one table in the
DB schema and Cake does not see the synonym at all. So:

SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES

returns Nil rows.

I can't find any references to Synonyms anywhere in relation to Cake,
so I am assuming this is not a commonly used technique, but does
anyone have a clue on what I can do to make this work?
