PHPUnit for Cakephp 2.1

As a newbie I have not be doing testing, but as I start to code or and more, EVERYONE is telling me how important it is.  With that said, I can not for the life of me get PHPUnit working for my installation of Cakephp 2.1.  I have tried the pear installation but there has to be a simpler way.

I was hoping it would be as easy as putting it in the Vendor folder or something can someone PLEASE help me understand how to get it working so I can become a serious programmer and start testing.
