You can generate the correct url using the Html->url helper in the view. jQuery has .change (http://api.jquery.com/change/) and then you are also using $.ajax

I don't recommend using ajax helpers unless it's a repetitive, fairly simple thing to do like links. Just write in raw javascript/jquery. Debugging is easier, the examples for plugins work in a copy paste way, and you get moving faster.
