It supports a lot of storage backends (local file system, s3, dropbox, memory, zip, other cloud services...) and automatic image resizing and versioning after upload. Read the documentation.
The image manipulation is easy to extend and also object oriented and also supports different engines, gd, imagick, imagick shell...
