search by username or email

hi guys,... I have a admin function that need find users by username or email from search field,... and used to work on cake1.2 

I moved script to 1.3 ,... and it's not working.... what am I doing wrong,... ?? please help

      $filter = $this->params['pass'];

      unset($filter['page']);

      unset($filter['sort']);

      unset($filter['direction']);

      $this->data = array('User' => $filter);

      $this->set('url_options', $filter);

      $scope = array();

      foreach(array('username', 'email') as $field)

      {

        if(!empty($filter[$field]))

          $scope[] = 'User.' . $field . ' LIKE \'%' . $filter[$field] . '%\'';

      }
