Cake wont load properly from remote amazon server

Cake is NOT able to connect to the database.

Database connection "Mysql" is missing, or could not be created.
SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket 'XXXX' (2)

I have a cake instance up on heroku that uses the amazon servers, and so I refected the server in database.php, and it gave me the error above. It seems to load fine when local, but when it is uploaded to heroku, it breaks....

any idea what could be causing this?
