-- Where should I put this function? In the model, in the appmodel, in the controler?
And how do I call the function? From where do I call it?

This is for only a single model?
In that case you can put the if-clause in the constructor.
function __construct($id = false, $table = null, $ds = null) {
if ( should use special config ) {
$this->useDbConfig = 'special_config';
}
parent::__construct($id, $table, $ds);
}
