I use admin routing to build an administration interface that has a
minimalistic design and is quite straight forward to the need to
administer the main page (write news, edit user profiles etc.)
So if you don't require this kind of admin interface than there is no
need to use admin routing at all.

Cake is written to be as flexible as possible. I don't think that
there will be an automagic to add the admin prefix to the functions if
the user has an admin role, because this would only serve your needs
and not mine for example.

Hope that helps to clear at least something about admin routing.
