app function

How do i run a function from app controller?

in app_controller i have in beforeFilter {
$this->buildNavigations();
}


function buildNavigations()
{

$links = $this->Link->find('list');
//$links = $this->find('list');

}

Resilts in:
Undefined property: PagesController::$Link

I simply want to build a navigation from the db Links which holds the nav
links.

Ideas?
