Yes its possible, but if you are using Linux then you can't use sqlsrv drivers bcoz its works only on windows server. On linux you have to use php-mssql or freetds drivers these drivers works on php 5.2 not above. So to use cakephp with mssql i suggest use following setup.

Althjough there is a limitation mssql,freetds does not support multibyte(chiniese/russian) characters :(
