With that said 3.0 is far from dead. New pull requests are opened weekly for 3.0. Given that we are supporting existing releases, working on new 2.x enhancements and working on 3.0, I'm happy with the progress we're making.
As for release date, we'll get clearer on the date for a stable release once we've made it to a dev/alpha release. There is still a pile of work to do for the new model layer as well as updating things like helpers & components to use the new model layer once its done.
